MESSAGE FOR THE BIRTH OF GURU GOBIND SINGH
I extend my warmest regards to all Australians joining with so many around the world in celebrating the birth of Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th and last of the personal Sikh Gurus.
As you honour and remember Guru Gobind Singh and his contributions to Sikhism, may you reflect on Guru Gobind Singh’s important teachings of generosity, selfless service, respect towards others, and equality for all regardless of religion, gender and status in society. These are values that resonate with all Australians, particularly as we continue to work together to overcome the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
I would like to once again thank the Sikh Australian community for your ongoing commitment to community service, particularly your contributions to Australia’s resilience and recovery throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Australia’s social fabric would not be as strong as it is today without the compassion and selfless service shown by the many volunteer and community organisations that bring people together and support community members.
I wish you and your families’ happiness as you celebrate this important occasion.
THE HON ALEX HAWKE MP
MINISTER FOR IMMIGRATION, CITIZENSHIP, MIGRANT SERVICES AND MULTICULTURAL AFFAIRS
